Written during the height of the Pandemic, this was my first solo Piano work as I began to explore composition beyond Film.

 

Written immediately after my 1st Flugelhorn Concerto, the theme from the first movement was one that had been written as I sketched for the 1st movement of the Flugelhorn Concerto. After returning to that initial sketch and expanding it, into what became the first movement of this Piano Sonata, the subsequent two movements came about rapidly, in just under a week.

After going through the piece with both composer Andrew Toovey and pianist Antony Gray a few weeks later, I made some slight revisions and the piece has remained in its current form since.
